Patron of Reading
From 2016 to 2019 I was delighted to be Patron of Reading for Craigroyston Primary School in Edinburgh, where P4 classes explored the theme of nautical adventure and Easter Island.
Under the excellent Patron of Reading scheme, which runs across the UK, a school and their patron get to develop an ongoing relationship, where everything is related to helping encourage and develop a reading for pleasure culture in the school. What a privilege!
Over the time I’ve been involved, successive P4 classes have been describing the qualities of a storm; writing applications to be adventurers; learning the importance of resilience and teamwork in class as much as at sea; making boats out of cardboard; writing messages in bottles to cast off their desert island; rehearsing a drama to show to the school; and learning how to read up on Easter Island using internet research – when learning whether to trust what you read is as important as the reading itself!
Get in touch if you’d like to know more, or discuss possibilities for school visits under the Patron of Reading scheme.
